Blackhawk Employees Eager to Fill Backpacks for Bay Area Kids
July 22, 2014
Blackhawk employees are once again embracing the annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive sponsored by our partners over at Family Giving Tree. Since 1990, the charity has been giving kids in low-income neighborhoods backpacks filled with necessary school supplies to help set students up for success.
Last year, our generous team here at Blackhawk stuffed 165 new backpacks with age-appropriate school supplies. Family Giving Tree was able to distribute these to students in need from over seven Bay Area counties.
We’re aiming to donate even more filled backpacks this year during the drive, which began on July 1 and goes through Friday, July 25. We’re giving employees two easy ways to participate. All they have to do is visit the Backpack Wall that we’ve put up in the HR conference room. It’s full of numbered cards arranged by age group and listing the supplies needed for that school year.
Our employees who love to shop can sign up for one or more cards, purchase a backpack and fill it with the school supplies the card details. Many parents choose cards for kids the same age as their own, so then they just buy two of everything!
For employees who don’t have the time or inclination to shop, they can simply write a check for $35, attach it to their numbered card and hand it to Blackhawk Human Resources.
Either way, we love that we work with so many community-minded colleagues who will make sure our local kids get to greet the new school year with a colorful backpack full of supplies.
