Forbes Reports on Blackhawk Survey Findings: Shoppers Still Pick Cash, Checks and Prepaid Cards

A recent Forbes article echoed the findings of our payments survey research, which examined the way 1,000 Americans pay today and their preferences for traditional and emerging tools. The survey revealed that consumers still have a strong preference for traditional payment methods such as cash, checks and prepaid cards. Several of the top research findings show that shoppers are using a large variety of payment options including:

  • 93 percent of respondents reported having paid with cash in transactions in this past calendar year
  • 68 percent of shoppers reported using a debit and checks
  • 62 percent of shoppers have used eBay and PayPal in the last twelve months
  • 45 percent of shoppers reported using MasterCard or Visa gift cards
